Material World
We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about. -- Albert Einstein

you should check out the book "Material World"
its pretty incredible. I saw it in Kelsey's studio today. It has pictures of families from 30 different countries posed in front of their house with all their possesions.

I saw that book a few years ago when it was first published -- what a contrast between the stuff owned by a the middle class American family and any of the third world families' possesions ... makes me realize how much effort we put into keeping stuff, cleaning stuff, maintaining stuff, protecting stuff (security systems, storing stuff, working to pay for storing stuff (even if it's in the garage -- we are paying the bank for the garage) ... ack! Very eye opening.
When I first moved to Montana, everything I owned fit in the trunk of a Subaru (a friend's Subaru) I was 23. In reading "Material World," I tried visualizing all our stuff spread out all over the garden. In the ensuing 28 years, the stuff has surreptiously mated, bred, reproduced itself many times over. yikes! time to cull ... and cull again.
Thanks for reminding me of that, gabe.
